The Port Said – Volgograd Project is an international academic and cultural initiative focused on reestablishing connections between the twin cities of Volgograd (Russia) and Port Said (Egypt) through student-led diplomacy.
Academic Collaboration: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Volgograd State Medical University (VolgGMU) and Port Said University to promote academic exchange, joint research, student mobility, and potential dual-degree programs.
Student-Driven Initiative: The project is led by students from VolgGMU, particularly those from Egypt, to enhance intercultural communication and adaptation for Egyptian students in Russia.
Cultural & Public Diplomacy: Activities include:
Creating a documentary featuring interviews with residents of streets named after the twin cities.
Hosting photography exhibitions showcasing each city.
Organizing teleconferences and educational events to foster mutual understanding.
Facilitating exchange visits between delegations from Volgograd and Port Said.
Historical Background: The two cities have been twin cities since 1962, but ties weakened over the past 25 years. This project aims to revive these bonds.
Strengthening cultural and educational ties between the two cities.
Helping Egyptian students adapt to Russian culture while fostering Russian-Egyptian student collaboration.
Promoting positive representation of Russia in Egypt through cultural diplomacy.
Establishing a long-term academic partnership between universities.
Universities: VolgGMU & Port Said University.
Government Entities: The administrations of both cities, Russian House in Cairo, and the Egyptian Cultural Center in Moscow.

Team Introduction & Historical Briefing
The first meeting was held at the Great Hall of Kharisma Residence, where team members were introduced to the historical background of Stalingrad (Volgograd) and Port Said, learning about their status as "Hero Cities" and the historical ties between Russia and Egypt.

Maslenitsa Celebration
Egyptian team members participated in traditional Russian Maslenitsa celebrations, tasting Russian pies, making kokoshniks and masks, and enjoying folklore performances. Team leader Kyriakos Malek prepared an Egyptian dessert, zalabiya, highlighting cultural similarities.

International Women's Day Forum
The team participated in an international discussion about women's status in different regions, including Russia, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and the CIS, fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Public Chamber Meeting
ANO RAU initiated a joint meeting between cultural and educational committees in Volgograd to discuss the establishment of an international youth club and an application for the Presidential Cultural Foundation’s Initiatives Competition, securing financial support.

First Zoom Meeting Between Universities
Representatives from Volgograd State Medical University and Port Said University met online, including the International Department heads and faculty members. A presentation on each university’s goals, achievements, and collaboration opportunities was conducted.
